COLD OPENING

RUN TITLE SEQUENCE

FADE IN:

1  SIDEWALK - SUNSET

RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL, ALONE BY HERSELF ON THE SIDEWALK. AMILIA IS WALKING DOWN ON THE SCREEN, HOLDING ONTO HER BACKPACK STRAPS, ANXIOUSLY FIDDLING WITH THEM.SHE APPROACHES THE ENTRANT SANCTUARY.SHE REALIZES THE MAN STANDING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS.THE MAN MOVES HIS BODY AS HE LOOKS AROUND. AMILIA BECOMES NOTICEABLY SWEATY AND NERVOUS. SHE SNEAKS PAST THE MAN. THE MAN IS LOOKING AT HIS POCKET WATCH. SHE GRABS THE GRABS THE RAILING, FLINGING HER BODY AND AGGRESSIVELY, BUT QUIETLY, CHARGES UP THE STAIRS. SHE REACHES FOR THE BIG OAK DOORS AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS.

OGLM

Excuse me, ma’am? Can you help me to the Entrant Sanctuary?

AMILIA STOPS, PUTS HER HAND DOWN, HER EYES SHAKE.

OGLM

Is that alright? I came to adopt a child.

AMILIA

(WHISPERING)

O-o-of course.

OGLM 

I beg your pardon, I couldn’t quite hear you ma’am.

AMILIA TAKES A DEEP BREATH, TURNS AROUND AND MAKES EYE CONTACT WITH HIM. HER HAIR IS BLOWING IN THE WIND, THE SUNSET REFLECTS OFF OF IT.

AMILIA

(SHE SPEAKS HAPPILY)

AMILIA WALKS DOWN FOUR STEPS.

AMILIA

(WAVES HER HAND TO MOTION HIM TO FOLLOW HER)

Right this way, sir, you are at the right place.

HER FACE IS A HESITANT SMILE AS SHE LEADS HIM INTO THE ORPHANAGE.

OGLM

Are you alright ma’am?

AMILIA

Oh, yes, yes, I’m alright!

AMILIA SEPARATES HERSELF FROM THE MAN SLOWLY. SHE STOPS AT THE FRONT DESK. SHE NOTICES NO ONE IS THERE.

AMILIA

Miss. Annabelle should be back soon. She’ll be the one at the desk when she gets back.

2 ORPHANAGE HALLS - SUNSET

AMILIA RUSHES AWAY FROM THE MAN AND DOWN THE HALLWAY ON HER LEFT.SHE CONTINUES PAST THE DINING ROOM, SHE TAKES THE HALLWAY ON THE LEFT, AT THE END SHE TAKES THE NEXT HALLWAY ON THE RIGHT, AND ANOTHER ON THE LEFT. SHE LOOKS UP AT THE SIGN ABOVE THE DOOR FRAME, IT READS: J-WING, S. AMILIA GOES DOWN FOUR DOORS AND TURNS TO THE LEFT, OPENING THE DOOR. 

3 AMILIA’S ROOM - SUNSET

THE ROOM HAS TWO BEDS, A SAUCER CHAIR, A COT AND A SLEEPING BAG. LIGHT BLANKETS ARE ON THE BEDS. SHE PROCEEDS TO DROP HER BACKPACK IN THE SAUCER CHAIR TO HER LEFT BY THE DOOR. AMILIA SITS IN THE SAUCER CHAIR.

SISTER MARY

Amilia! (PAUSE) Amilia, Ami, dear! (PAUSE, SAID IMPATIENTLY) Amilia!

AMILIA FALLS TO THE FLOOR.

AMILIA

Coming, Sister Mary!

AMILIA RUSSLES THROUGH HER DRAWER, SHE PULLS OUT A WHITE DRESS, AND STRUGGLES TO PUT IT ON. NEXT, SHE GRABS A CROSS NECKLACE FROM THE DRESSER AND PUTS IT ON. THEN SHE GRABS HER BLANK SCRUNCHIE, PUTTING HER SHORT HAIR INTO A LITTLE BUN. AMILIA RUNS OUT OF THE ROOM AND DOWN THE HALLWAY, SLOWING AS SHE REACHES A DESK.

4 IN FRONT OF THE CATHEDRAL, AT SISTER MARY’S DESK - JUST AFTER SUNSET

SISTER MARY

Oh, Amilia, dear! You forgot your crown!

AMILIA FEELS HER HAIRLINE.

SISTER MARY

Here, dear, I have an extra.

SISTER MARY PUTS THE CROWN ON FOR AMILIA, SHE PATS HER ON THE BACK.

AMILIA

(SHE CURTSEY’S)

Thank you, Sister Mary.

AMILIA WALKS TOWARDS THE CATHEDRALS DOORS.

SISTER MARY

Amilia, dear.

AMILIA

Yes, Sister Mary?

SISTER MARY

Do bring back that crown, honey, I do need it.

AMILIA

Of course, Sister Mary.

AMILIA OPENS THE DOOR AND LETS SISTER MARY ENTER FIRST. AMILIA JOINS HER FRIENDS, SISTER MARY WALKS ONTO THE STAGE, RELIGIOUS SERVICES BEGIN.
